You can count on each day being eventful. Even though the structure and schedule is virtually the same day in and day out, different personalities among the women bring different situations.
“My day is always going to be busy. I know that. But I never know what it will bring. It’s trying to say the least. I have to constantly remind myself I’m walking with God. A conflict will happen that finds me wanting to run the other way, but I’m reminded that life is about love and relationships, even when they are hard. So I have to face it. I’ll mess up, but when I lay my head on the pillow at night, I know that tomorrow will bring another chance to do it right.”
It’s true. Each day brings another opportunity for each woman to “get it right the next time”. Each day brings trials and conflict, but most importantly, hope for another tomorrow.
“It’s certainly not always pleasant when faced with the daily truth about yourself, both good and bad. But it’s a daily walk in humility, and practice makes perfect.”
Every day brings new hope for a new beginning.
A WEEK IN THE LIFE OF A STUDENT
What can you possibly learn about yourself in a week? Is progress really noticeable?
“There is so much to learn. You can look at yourself on Monday and wonder how you are possibly going to make it through a year, much less the next seven days. By Thursday you look in the mirror and just know that you are not the same person you were three days ago. You see something different. The people around you know something is different.”
Each week brings newly discovered aspects of each woman. They get balance back for the first time in years. Not only do you see the changes emotionally, but also every week brings new growth mentally, spiritually, and physically. Week by week lives are transformed.
A MONTH IN THE LIFE OF A STUDENT
Each month you can look back and make a long list of the ways each woman’s life has been transformed. You see their relationship skills come full circle. Their walk with Christ becomes more evident. All areas of their lives shine.
“I think each month you go through the grieving process, at least for the first few months. As you start to dig up your past, you go through denial, bargaining, anger, depression, and finally, acceptance. But you also learn to laugh like you haven’t in years. One minute you think the tears will never stop; the next minute you’re rolling on the floor. Then you realize another month has gone by. That’s when you say to yourself, ‘I’ve only got two more months to go. I better dig in and make it worth it.’”
Each month brings more acceptance and stronger faith in each woman’s walk toward truly being set free.
A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF A STUDENT
Women will struggle with devoting a full year to this Discipleship program. Some days they wonder if a year will ever come. Most days, however, fly by before they even realize it. But it’s certainly not an easy task.
“At the end of the year you look back, and it’s hard not to drop your jaw at how much one person can really change. And it happens in the course of 12 months! I mean you’re still you, but better. And you realize that everything you have been learning and applying to your life, you’ve been teaching to other people all along. You feel triumphant.”
“You don’t always understand the why or how of things. You have something you’re struggling with and you just can’t seem to get a grasp on it. Months go by and you’re dealing with the same thing. It’s hard, then easy, hard, easy, and hard. Then you wake up and know it’s different. You combat it.”
Every minute, every moment you go through is worth it. It’s hard. It’s painful. It can be scary at times. You will get angry. You’ll fight growth. You’ll laugh. But when the last day comes and you stand before your family and friends, and the women you have been surrounded by, you don’t question whether it was worth it or not – you just know.
